In Amalfi, all the senses are stimulated: from lemon scents, sea waves resounding on the steep and vertical cliffs, to the vivid colors of the majolica worked by the most famous ceramic masters. Aromas, lights and colors of nature are, in effect, the main source of inspiration for Amalfi coast potters.
Being real works of design, Amalfi ceramics boast a very high artisan quality. The drawings recall the landscape and the wonderful nature of Amalfi coast, with geometric patterns, soft lines and bright colors. The history of ceramics is very ancient: it began in the early 11th century, when artisans and designers were used to work clay vases and enrich them with splendid colors.
Starting from the early 20th century, especially due to the influence of an increasingly passionate and cultured European public, the transition from ceramics as a handicraft product to a true cult and design item took place. Despite the significant increase in production, the ceramists have preserved the most traditional processing characteristics that still make Amalfi ceramics a unique product. The ceramists' workshops are therefore spaces in which tradition and innovation go hand in hand.
